Client: Higgins Construction
Project Value: £32 million
Project Type: Redevelopment to create 271 mixed use dwellings
The Quadrant
The Quadrant is a redevelopment of an area in Stockwell Green, London which comprised 271 mixed use dwellings with environmental standards ECOHomes, BREEAM and Section 20 requirements, including sprinklers to the basement car park. The development also incorporates nine retail units and provides underground car parking for selected tenants and disabled use.
The renewables strategy had to achieve 30% of the energy load of the building as the scheme is to accommodate the renewables for the adjacent developments. Having the largest solar water heating roof panel array in Europe at the time of construction, it has extremely low heat loss values resulting from highly efficient insulation. The solar heating design utilised the dwellings’ local water heaters as buffer vessels, with electric immersion heating back-up instead of installing a central boiler plant.
