PinnacleESP were appointed by Thomas Sinden to carry out the Stage 4, 5 & 6 MEPH services technical design for Charter Court, Hemel Hempstead.

 

The project comprises the change of use from a 3-storey commercial office block to a 5-storey residential block with 33 apartments throughout the ground to third floor complete with sub terrain basement parking to serve the residents.

 

The MEPH services design provided by PinnacleESP included an all-electric scheme comprising electric boilers providing the heating to all dwellings and electric hot water cylinders providing the hot water to all dwellings. Mechanical ventilation heat recovery was provided to all south facing dwellings and centralised extract to all north facing dwellings. A life safety system was provided by means of a sprinkler system to each dwelling served via a combined sprinkler and domestic services water storage tank complete with an electrical secondary supply arrangement.

 

The scheme incorporated a Steel Framing Solution to the new second and third floor extension with the existing concrete structural arrangement being retained on the existing levels. This provided challenges across the design process to ensure coordination of distribution services without comprising the building structure and coordinating rising MEPH services between the two structural systems.

 

PinnacleESP were also appointed to provide Energy Services throughout the design process, consisting of design stage SAP’s/EPC calculations a well as providing as built EPC’s.
