WINNER OF THE GREEN GUARDIAN AWARDS - GREEN BUILDING 2009

Parish Church CE Nursery and Infant School is a Church of England Voluntary Aided School in the London Borough of Croydon.

PinnacleESP was commissioned as MEP consultants for the new, single storey cross-laminated timber building.  Its main use was for breakfast and after school clubs as well as teacher training facilities. It also contains kitchen facilities and a multi-use meeting room. The building was winner of the Green Building 2009 for the Green Guardian Award.

The key feature of the design for this new building was to provide an exciting communal space bringing natural daylight and passive ventilation into the school. The building comprised CLT and Glulam beams - internally exposed as a feature of the space.

PinnacleESP assisted the design team to set better than standard levels of insulation; optimised thermal mass and provided natural cross ventilation. The use of ‘Sunpipes’ within the roof structure provides excellent daylight levels to the heart of the rooms.

The new building has a low carbon footprint and provides the school with low mechanical services maintenance costs.
